13 Baptismal Vows
Meet up with Ps Yuen last night to go through the baptismal vows. 13 of them, took us 1½-hrs to finish. Was overwhelmed by lots of tough questions, and my exhausted brain was obviously not working.
Out of the 13 vows, one touched me so much that my eyes went wet. It leaded to a question from Ps Yuen on why we do foot-washing quarterly. In my mind I was thinking, “that’s easy!”.
And I answered, “To remember to be humble lo~”.
Ps Yuen explained further.
During Jesus time, people walk on sand and soil which made their legs very dirty. So every time they enter a house, the host will arrange their legs to be washed. The act of immersion during baptism is to cleanse us from our sinful life and symbolizes we are being reborn. Walking along the Christianity route, after baptism, we sometimes dirty our legs with sins and some other wrongdoings. And through the action of foot washing, God give us opportunity to repent and cleanse ourselves, so that we can move-on…
HE is just so thoughtful & forgiving.
Isn’t HE?
Now I fully understand why Ps Yuen insisted that I only participate in foot-washing after my baptism.
